The Importance of a Wedding Planner

Can you guess what is one of the number one regrets I've heard from brides over the years?! They regret not hiring a wedding planner. I'm not just saying this because I'm in the industry, it's the honest truth. You would be surprised how far down the list a wedding planner ranks in the eyes of a bride and groom. Sometimes planners don't even make the list. Many brides (and grooms for that matter) underestimate what it takes to design, plan, and coordinate a wedding. It's not necessarily their fault, but more about where to cut down in their budget, not realizing the stress and pressure that comes with that decision. I don't want to sound like I'm giving a sales pitch, because that's not at all what I'm doing. I simply want every single bride to know they deserve a planner regardless of the size and budget of their wedding.

So why is a wedding planner so important? The reasons I will discuss are truly just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to understanding the value of a wedding planner. Here are just 5 reasons why you should consider a planner for your wedding!

1. The Connections of a Planner

Since a wedding planner works with many professional in the wedding industry, they have a wide range of connections to other vendors that you are in need of. Weddings are not cheap, and require a lot of trust from individuals you've more than likely never met. You can guarantee that a planner will only provide a list of vendors that she, too, can trust and rely on. Planners can assist with your bookings, which could also help save you money. We all know that's a huge plus with any wedding budget.

2. Family and Friends Aren't Professional Planners

This is a big one. Family and friends of the bride and groom will almost always offer their help. As it may be very genuine and sincere, they are not a professional planner. If they are in the wedding profession, that's great... but this should be a time that your closest friends and family members are able to enjoy this special occasion with you, not working! Right?!

3. A Planner Provides Expertise & Knowledge

When you hire a professional planner, you are investing in an organized, detail oriented, and knowledgable individual. They can provide you with latest trends and design methods to help execute your vision. They will help you coordinate a complete timeline that includes the smallest details that you may never have thought of otherwise. They will give you guidance, and help troubleshoot any issues that may arise. Most of the time, brides aren't even aware of an issue that occurs during their wedding because they have a planner taking care of it!

4. They are Your Outlet

A planner becomes your outlet in a variety of different ways. They can become the middle man to certain decisions that need to be made, and help navigate through problems. The two biggest struggles for brides are saying "No" to other vendors and to friends or family members. Nobody wants to be the bad guy. This is where your planner can step in and alleviate any situation in a professional manner. Your planner inevitably becomes your mediator, therapist, and best friend throughout the planning process. Trust me, you'll want to chanel some of that bridal energy somewhere. What better person that your planner?!

5. You Need to be Present

To me, this is one of the most important reasons to hire a wedding planner. Yes, a planner is vital to the planning process, helps reduce your stress, and eases your mind leading up to the big day.... but the most important attribute a wedding planner provides is the ability to make sure you are present in each and every moment on your wedding day. The last thing you want to do is look back and remember the billions of questions you had to answer, chasing vendors around, and setting up & breaking down of the event.

Ultimately, hiring a wedding planner should be the biggest gift you give to yourself. Not only does a wedding planner provide an enjoyable and stress free planning process, they provide you with a piece of mind. What I want every bride and groom to take away is this... Remember that your wedding day is about the love and unity the two of you share. At the end of the day it's not about the money, logistics, and the decision making process. After all, that's what a planner is for. Allow yourself to be a guest at your own party!
